Biography

Matt gained a BA (Hons) in Lighting Design at Rose Bruford College.
Recent Theatre Lighting Design credits include: What Does It Take? (Albany Deptford), Mud (The Gate Theatre), The Pool (Arts Theatre London), Lovely & Misfit (Trafalgar Studios), Sorcerer's Apprentice (Kazzum UK Tour), The Yalta Game/Ode to the Sea, Treehouses, The Liar, Mary Stuart & The Country Wife (Drama Centre London, Cochrane Theatre), Ana In Love (Hackney Empire), We'll Gather Lilacs (Bridewell), Four Knights in Knaresborough (Riverside Studios), I Have Before Me…(Finborough Theatre), Starless Sky at Midnight (BAC), Noel & Gertie (Grace) and Orpheus Descending (BAC).

Recent Opera Lighting Design credits include: La Colombe & L'occasione fa il ladro (Guildhall), The Sofa/ The Departure (Independent Opera/ Sadlers Wells), A House on the Moon (English Touring Opera/ Wolverhampton Grand), Le Nozze di Figaro (RCM), Orfeo (English Touring Opera/UK Tour), Cosi Fan Tutte(Classical Opera Company/ Sadlers Wells/UK Tour & Italy), Tolomeo (RCM/ETO/London Handel Festival/UK Tour), Tobias & the Angel (Young Vic/ETO UK Tour), Garrett (Hoxton Hall), and A series of Ned Rorem Shorts (Bridewell).

Architectural & Site Specific projects: Dido, Queen of Carthage (Kensington Palace), Sea Tongue (Launch Commission - The Shout/De La Warr Pavilion), Interactive Lighting Commission (ECOS Stones Somerset), Encounters (Greenwich & Docklands Festival, Royal Naval College, Greenwich) along with consultancy work specialising in aircraft interiors.

Matt regularly recreates and revives other Lighting Designer’s work for many companies including the National Youth Theatre & English Touring Opera. He was recently Season Lighting Co-ordinator/ Designer for the ETO's Baroque Season touring four early operas throughout the country. He has recently completed co-writing the manual for the
Wholehog III, a sophisticated new lighting control system.
